The Glory of Gershwin

October 2

George Gershwin is credited to be one of the most significant and popular American composers of all time. He dropped out of school and began playing piano professionally at age 15. Within a few years, he was one of the most sought after musicians in America. A composer of jazz, opera, and popular songs for stage and screen, many of his works are now standards.  The Genius of George Gershwin includes such classics as “Swanee” (1919) Rhapsody in Blue (1924) “Someone to Watch Over Me” (1927) / “I Got Rhythm” (1928) “Summertime” (1934) “Shall We Dance” (1937). This day should be a wonderful time of great entertainment, lunch in Charleston, and the show in the Charleston Theatre.
