SEP 28…  GRAND HOTEL …This morning we travel up through the heart of the state of Michigan. Arriving in Mackinaw City, it’s time to board our jet boat ferry across LAKE HURON to enticing Mackinac Island.  We will be met by horse drawn carriages and taken to the fabulous GRAND HOTEL.  This luxury hotel, with its 800 foot long covered porch, the longest in the World, is an elegant reminder of times past.  The landscaping should be beautiful on the island this time of year. Our group enjoys Lunch in the Grand Dining Room, and later have some time in the village before returning to the mainland. (B,L)

SEP 29 … RED CLIFF, WISC … Breakfast and we drive across the amazing Mackinac Bridge, a suspension bridge spanning the Straits of Mackinac between Lake Huron & Lake Michigan and connecting the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan. The Mackinac Bridge is currently the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world and the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. The total length of the Mackinac Bridge is 26,372 feet. Our trail takes us across the northern woodlands of Wisconsin as we arrive in Red Cliff, Wisconsin for a 2 night stay along the shores of Lake Superior. (B,D)

SEP 30 …  APOSTLE ISLANDS CRUISE … The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is an archipelago of twenty two picture perfect islands off the Bayfield Peninsula in Lake Superior. The islands and portions of the mainland were originally put under the protections of the Antiquities Act by President Nixon in 1970. We take a Grand Tour of the Islands on a three hour cruise on a glass bottomed tour boat.  We cruise past many of the most popular islands, lighthouses, sea caves, and historic sites.  Stopping on Madeline Island, everyone has time to explore, grab lunch at one of the cafes, before returning to the mainland. What a great day.  Special Dinner tonight with local culinary specialties. (B,D)

OCT 1 …  MALL OF AMERICA … This morning we head south and travel into the “Land of 10,000 lakes, making our way to Minneapolis.  One of the top attractions of the area and of America is the huge Mall of America. This is one of the largest malls in the world, full of shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and even an aquarium. You will have time to enjoy upon our arrival in mid-afternoon. (B)

OCT 2 …  NEW GLARUS … Crossing the Mississippi at St Paul, we again work our way south through the farming country of Wisconsin. A Special stop is in store this afternoon as we visit the quaint town of New Glarus.  New Glarus was established as a Swiss Colony in 1845 and incorporated as a Village in 1901. The Village has retained its Swiss charm with Alpine-style architecture, ethnic festivals and Swiss delicacies. Later we arrive in the Chicago area for a 2 night stay. (B)
