DAY 1  TRAIN RIDE …This interesting autumn tour features an array of activities and transportation…from train rides to cruises on bays, to historic coastal villages, you will witness amazing scenery, all on one trip.   We board the train in Savannah and travel by rail to Richmond, Virginia. Welcome Dinner. (D)

DAY 2 … LIGHT HOUSE CRUISE & ANNAPOLIS TOUR …Breakfast and we travel to Annapolis and board a luxury 65’ yacht for a BAY LIGHTHOUSE CRUISE.  A Costumed Lighthouse Keeper on the cruise will take you to a time when our lighthouses were “manned” in the Chesapeake Bay in order to keep the vessels warned of danger. Men and Women of the 19th Century kept at their post, but ours will keep you entertained and engaged with humor, anecdotes, music, tales of famous keepers and even a ghost story or two! After the cruise, we enjoy a most inspiring tour of the United States Naval Academy, with a local guide pointing out the interesting sights of this hallowed place.  What a “Great” Day. (B,L)

DAY 3TANGIER ISLAND …Another “Day On The Bay” as we travel along the shores of the Chesapeake to Crisfield. Here our group boards the Steven Thomas for a cruise out to Tangier Island. First settled in 1686 by the English, some of the natives still speak with a slight Elizabethan accent. Lunch on Tangier Island is at Hilda Crockett’s famous Chesapeake House.  “Her crab cakes”, some say, “are the best on the Chesapeake Bay”.  We enjoy leisure time on the island before returning to the mainland. (B,L)

DAY 4OUTER BANKS & KITTY HAWK … Moving south along this narrow finger of land with the Bay on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other we come to the tiny town of Chincoteague, Virginia, famous for its wild ponies. Legend has it that horses survived early shipwrecks and swam to land, and their off-spring have become the Chincoteague ponies.  They actually live on Assateague Island with over 300 species of birds. We cross the amazing Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, an 18 mile route of one of the world’s most incredible engineering feats. Next we enter the Outer Banks, a string of narrow islands and peninsulas that lie between the ocean and the sounds along 125 miles of North Carolina coastline.  Through years of storms and shipwrecks, the islands have developed a distinct culture. We stop at  Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Brothers successfully launched their first flight in 1903. 2 nights in Nags Head.  Dinner.  (B,D)

DAY 5CAPE HATTERAS … Today we explore the Outer Banks …  Jockey Ridge, an imposing site, a sand dune over 100 feet high that is a popular launching point for hang gliders and the tallest dune in the eastern United States.   The Cape Hatteras National Seashore extends 45 square miles along the Outer Banks, and we travel this area of natural and wild beauty to the town of Hatteras, with the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States, standing at 208 feet tall. Tonight we enjoy another great meal along the Outer Banks. (B,D)

DAY 6 …This morning we drive onto the mainland and journey back to our homes after a delightful visit to the Outer Banks and the beauty and intrigue of the Chesapeake Bay. (B)
