SEP 29 … We meet at the airport for our transcontinental flight to the Pacific Northwest, arriving in Seattle in early afternoon.   Our group will visit the Seattle Center, home of the famous Space Needle, and then travel to Portland, Oregon for a 2 night stay.  Welcome Dinner.  (D)

SEP 30 ... Our tour today carries us along the scenic Columbia River Gorge with its many beautiful waterfalls, overlooks, and Bonneville Dam with its fish ladders.  We'll enjoy lunch overlooking the spectacular Falls at Multnomah before returning to Portland in the afternoon.  Here we enjoy a tour of the City of Roses, including a visit to their famous Rose Gardens. OCT 1 ... Continuing southwest, we arrive along the rugged Oregon coast, with waves crashing into rocky cliffs and pebble-strewn beaches,   The group enjoys lunch at Mo’s in Florence as we get set for an exciting experience, unique to the area.  Enjoy a wild adventure on a Dune Buggy ride on the National Dune Recreation Area with its sand dunes towering 400 feet high!    Later we stop at a myrtle wood factory in Coos Bay to shop for souvenirs made from this fragrant wood.  Our overnight is here along the Oregon coast.  (B,L)

OCT 2 ... Early morning as we travel historic 101 along the southern Oregon coast into California. Lunch is a treat as we stop at the Somoa Cookhouse, the last surviving cookhouse in the West, which continues the tradition of serving lots of good food - lumber camp style!  Entering Giant Redwood country, we travel along the "Avenue of the Giants, through both the Humboldt and Richardson groves to witness firsthand these towering trees that dwarf everything around them.  We'll continue through the redwoods to the town of Ukiah, voted the best place to live in California.  (B,L)

OCT 3 ... Today is set aside for California’s famous Wine Country, as we head into the Sonoma and Napa Valleys.  With vineyards on both sides of the road, we stop at a local winery for tasting, enjoy lunch, a chance to browse the many unique shops of Sonoma and the other villages of the Valley. Later we arrive in the San Francisco area for a 2 night stay.   (B)

OCT 4 ... Touring San Francisco, we see "The City by the Bay" from many vantage points...Twin Peaks with its panoramic view of the city's 45 hills, Union Square, China Town, Nob Hill, and then finish at Fisherman's Wharf.  A highlight should be our afternoon excursion to "The Rock", as we take a ferry to Alcatraz for a tour of this historic and infamous site.  Dinner tonight will be at one of the fine California restaurants in the Wharf district.  (B,D)

OCT 5 ... Today provides one of the highlights of our trip as we travel south to the Monterey Peninsula.  We stop at Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck's novel, and have some time along the waterfront.  Then we travel the Big Sur Coastal Highway, with spectacular views as we wind our way high above the crashing waves of the Pacific.  Next, its on to San Simeon, and here we will tour one of the greatest examples of wealth in America, imposing Hearst Castle perched high in the hills.  Dinner in Cambria is a special treat at Linn's, famous for its Homemade Pot Pies.  (B,D) 

OCT 6 ... This morning we continue southward to the tiny Scandinavian village of Solvang with time to browse and enjoy lunch on your own.  Next is a stop in Santa Barbara at its famous Old Mission, founded in 1786, and serving as the landmark of the city.  Overnight in the Los Angeles area.  (B)

OCT 7 ... This morning we visit Hollywood, with Grumman's Chinese Theater, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, and time to stroll along "The Stars Walk of Fame" in Hollywood.  Later we travel south to the Mission San Juan Capistrano, known for the flocks of swallows returning every year to this location.  Arriving in San Diego, this is our home for our final 2 nights in this lovely destination.  (B)

OCT 8 ... Breakfast and then we enjoy a narrated sightseeing tour of the city that boasts of being "America's City with the Best Climate".  We will visit Old Town and the many interesting sights of this beautiful location along the southern shores of California.  A harbor cruise highlights the afternoon before our Special Farewell Dinner at Tom Ham's Lighthouse. OCT 9 ...  All too soon, it is time to take our return flight home after a spectacular Western adventure along America’s West Coast. Upon arrival in Atlanta, we transfer back to our departure point.  (B)
