GREAT CITIES OF TEXAS & "FIESTA"
04/16/2010 - 04/22/2010HIGHLIGHTS: Vicksburg, Tour of Dallas, San Antonio Riverwalk, The Alamo, Fiesta River Parade, Tour of Houston, L Arberge Du Lac Resort, Bellingrath Gardens, & lots more ... 11 Meals APR 16...We depart on our way west and travel through Georgia and Alabama for an overnight in the Magnolia State of Mississippi. Welcome Dinner (D) APR 17...We travel across this beautiful state and make our morning stop in Vicksburg, on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River. Vicksburg was originally settled by the French, later claimed by the Spanish, and finally by the Americans when it became a Methodist mission. We'll continue on through the Bayou State of Louisiana, known in bygone days for its cotton and oil production. This afternoon we arrive in Dallas, Texas, (8th largest city of America) and have a chance to visit Dealy Plaza, the President Kennedy Memorial, and the Texas School Book Depository which hid his assassin. Tonight everyone is treated to a Texas Dinner. (B,D) APR 18...This morning we travel southward through Austin, the state capital, and continue into the Hill Country. Our trail leads us to the exciting city of San Antonio (7th largest city in America) for a 2 night stay, with our hotel located near to the Alamo and steps from the famed Riverwalk. Arriving in mid-afternoon, you have time to enjoy the excitement of "Fiesta". We will enjoy a special dinner tonight, before taking our reserved seats along the Paseo del Rio, or Riverwalk, for the Boat Parade, as dozens of brilliantly lighted and decorated vessels wind their way along the river. (B,D) APR 19...San Antonio is one of the most picturesque cities in America, with its old Spanish flavor, multi-cultural people, and its many parks and plazas. An outstanding feature is the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park which includes four missions along the "Missions Park Trail." We'll visit the 250 year-old most famous church ... the Mission San Antonio de Valero, better known as THE ALAMO. The day is yours to explore the Old Town area by the old town trolley or by foot, and you are in the center of all of the activities for FIESTA. We will enjoy a special dinner tonight. Perhaps you would enjoy visiting the "A Night in Old San Antonio" with its vendors, entertainment, and fun. (B,D)
APR 20 ... Today we visit the third of Texas' major cities (4th largest city in America) ... Houston. Known for its oil barons, expansive energy industry, its NASA Space Center, and the largest concentration of Medical, health-care and research institutions in the world. We take on a local guide for a tour of this interesting city. Later we continue into Louisiana for a relaxing evening at the L Auberge Du Lac Resort and Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Dinner. (B,D)
APR 21...Traveling across the Bayou Country, keep your eyes open for native wildlife in this land of Cajuns. Today another highlight is a walk through world-famous Bellingrath Gardens during their beautiful spring blooming season. We overnight in the Mobile, Alabama area with a dinner along the Bay. (B,D)
APR 22... We return home after an exciting trip to the 3 great cities of Texas & "Fiesta 2010". (B)
