TENNESSEE FOLIAGE TRAINS

10/26/2018 - 10/28/2018

HIGHLIGHTS:   Incline Railway, Dinner Cruise on the Tennessee River, Train Ride into the Hiwassee River Gorge,  Georgia “Apple Trail”, Dahlonega & the Smith House, & lots more … 5 Meals

DAY 1 … We travel north across Georgia to the cooler climate of Chattanooga, Tennessee for a 2 night stay.  The foliage should be stunning in October, as we enjoy the beauty of this lovely area. Famous for its Lookout Mountain and the Incline Railway, we board the train in Elmo for our ride to the top.  The Incline’s trolley-style cars climb through the natural beauty surrounding historic Lookout Mountain at a breathtaking 72.7% grade – straight up! Sit back, and enjoy the scenic views of the mountains and valleys from the observation windows on the train as well as the panoramic views from the observation tower at the Incline’s top station. We spend 2 nights in Chattanooga.  Welcome Dinner.   (D)

DAY 2 … Breakfast and we transfer by motorcoach to the Etowah Station to meet the Tennessee Valley Railroad for a scenic Rail Adventure. We board the Fall Foliage Express for a train ride through the Hiwassee River Gorge. This 3 ½ hour trip takes you to the top of Hiwassee Loop where the tracks cross over themselves as they corkscrew up the mountain near Farner, Tennessee.  Today by rail, and tonight by boat as our evening is highlighted by a relaxing dinner cruise on the Tennessee River. (B,D)

DAY 3  … Following the “Apple Trail” past huge groves and packing houses in north Georgia around Elijay, we make a fruit stop. There is plenty of room under our bus for bags of apples and homemade pies. On to Dahlonega, site of America’s first gold rush and we have time to enjoy the shops along the square before sitting down to a delicious lunch at the Smith House, family style. Later in the afternoon we return home after a grand fall foliage experience. (B,L)
