SEP 8… FAIRMONT HOT SPRINGS RESORT … Departing Idaho Falls, we travel on into Montana. An interesting stop is in store.  Bannack State Park is a National Historic Landmark and the site of Montana's first major gold discovery on July 28, 1862. This strike set off a massive gold rush that swelled Bannack's population to over 3,000 by 1863. As the easy to mine gold steadily dwindled, Bannack's bustling population slowly declined till no one was left. Over 50 buildings line Main Street; their historic log and frame structures recall Montana's formative years. A walk down the deserted streets of Bannack takes you back to the 'Old West' in this best preserved of all Montana ghost towns. Later we arrive at the beautiful resort of Fairmont Hot Springs. This Resort is known throughout the Northwest for its pools. There are two over sized Olympic swimming pools and two mineral soaking pools. One of each located indoors and outdoors. The pools are fed by a virtually unlimited supply of 155 degree natural hot spring water, cooled to various temperatures for comfort and maximum enjoyment.  The Native Americans considered hot springs to be medicinal and many people to this day swear by the healing powers of natural hot springs.  (B)

SEP 9BIG SKY COUNTRY … This morning we travel west between the mountains on every side of our Motorcoach… amazing beauty of Big Sky Country.    Continuing north, we skirt Flathead Lake,  (the largest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi) and arrive in Kalispell for a 2 night stay at the foot of the majestic mountain peaks known as the “Alps of America”…Glacier National Park. (B,D)

SEP 10 GOING TO THE SUN TOUR … A spectacular highlight is in store today as we board Glacier National Park vehicles and travel up and over Logan Pass along the famed “Going To The Sun” Highway, one of the most scenic mountain roads in the world. Be on the watch for deer, elk, moose, grizzlies, mountain goats, and wolves!  The vistas will astound you…sky-scraping craggy peaks, lush alpine meadows, pristine lakes, more than 50 glaciers, a narrow winding road, and the thrill of a lifetime.   We return to Kalispell after an unforgettable day.    (B,L)
