HIGHLIGHTS: Sam Shortline Rail Ride, "Million Dollar Quartet" at the Springer Opera House, Little Grand Canyon of Georgia, Yoder's, & lots more … 3 Meals
MAY 3 … All aboard as we travel this morning to Cordele to board Sam Shortline for the Train to Plains. Enjoy picnic lunch on this 1949 vintage rail car, and have time to explore the home town of former President Jimmy Carter. The Plains High School now houses the Visitor's Center, and we also go out to Carter's Boyhood Home. Checking into our hotel in Columbus, tonight is highlighted by an exciting musical Broadway production of "MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET" at the historic Springer Opera House. The show centers around the night of December 4, 1956 when Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley were together recording for their only time at Sun Records in Memphis. (L,D)
MAY 4 … Only a short distance away we visit Providence Canyon State Outdoor Recreation Area, a 1,003 acres state park located in southwest Georgia. The park contains PROVIDENCE CANYON, which is sometimes called Georgia's "Little Grand Canyon". It is considered to be one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Georgia. From here we motorcoach to Montezuma for lunch at a very unique place… YODERS, the Mennonite Restaurant known for its delicious food. Later we return home with great bargains and fond memories. (B,L)
