SWAMP GRAVY & SHORTLINE

03/16/2018 - 03/18/2018

HIGHLIGHTS: SWAMP GRAVY, Train to Plains, & Lots More … All Meals

MAR 16 … Traveling across south Georgia roads to the western part of the state, we stop for lunch in Valdosta in route to our hotel in Bainbridge. Checking in, we drive to Colquitt, GA to enjoy dinner and a show in the Cotton Hall Theatre. What a wonderful experience as we take in a performance of the Official Folk Life Play of Georgia ... SWAMP GRAVY.   The show presents a crowd-pleasing blend of comedy, drama, and music with a cast and crew of over 100 people who transform southern life into unforgettable theatre. The name, SWAMP GRAVY, raises the question as to what it actually is?  Indigenous of the area,  it is a stew like dish that is made from pouring “fish drippings” that you have left in the grease after frying fish. Then you add tomatoes, potatoes, onions, and whatever else you have on hand and make a side dish or it could even be the whole meal if you don’t have enough fish for everyone.     (L,D)

MAR 17 … All aboard as we travel this morning to Cordele to board Sam Shortline in Cordele for the Train to Plains. Enjoy picnic lunch on this 1949 vintage rail car, and have time to explore the home town of former President Jimmy Carter. The Plains High School now houses the Visitor's Center, and we also go out to Carter's Boyhood Home. Later we return home after 2 days of fun & entertainment. (B,L)
