ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH, COLORADO

AUG 18...Our flight arrives in Denver, and we are met by our deluxe motorcoach for a  mini sightseeing tour of the "Mile High City".  We drive on to Estes Park at the base of the Rocky Mountain National Park and overnight here. We check into our hotel and get acquainted with fellow travelers at our Welcome Dinner. (D)

AUG 19 ...Breakfast and plan on a day of spectacular scenery as we travel to Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park, where over 70 peaks soar higher than 12,000 feet into the Colorado sky.  We travel the legendary Trail Ridge Road into the Park, a 45 mile route that rambles 2 miles above sea level with magnificent sights and amazing vistas. We continue our circle back and travel to Colorado Springs.  (B,D)

AUG 20...Colorado Springs is home to the Air Force Academy located in a spectacular setting. The Chapel consists of 17 glass spires rising 150 feet.  We visit here and then drive through the Garden of the Gods, a 1350 acre parkland filled with sandstone formations that have been carved by erosion into unusual sculptures. Today, the highlight must be our Cog Rail Train excursion up to the top of Pikes Peak for breathtaking views.   (B,L)

AUG 21...Heading west we approach Royal Gorge, a canyon carved out by the Arkansas River 1000 feet below. The suspension bridge is the highest one in the world. Continuing to Salida for a lunch break, we travel across the Continental Divide and along Wolf Creek Pass to the western village of Durango, once a bustling railroad hub and mining center.  Will Rogers described the town as "out of the way and glad of it". We will spend 2 nights in Durango. (B)

AUG 22...This morning we offer a tour to one of the most fascinating sites in all of America...Mesa Verde National Park. Once the home of the Anasazis Pueblo Indians as they lived in these cliff dwellings over 700 years ago. Discovered in 1888 by two ranchers, these fascinating structures carved into the side of the cliffs and mountains are the finest ruins preserved in the United States. We will tour the area and enjoy lunch here. Later we return to Durango with some leisure time to visit the many Victorian shops of the village.   (B,L)

AUG 23...Today we board the last scheduled narrow gauge railroad in America and travel by train along a spectacular mountain route to the mining town of Silverton. With time for lunch and some browsing the specialty shops, we board our motorcoach and travel the Million Dollar Highway over Red Mt Pass at 11,018 feet to Ouray, the "Switzerland of America". We descend the heights of the San Juan Mountains and travel through the red rock lands of western Colorado to Grand Junction for our night's lodging. Dinner (B,D)

AUG 24... This morning we Motorcoach on a spectacular drive across the Rocky Mountains, past Vail and over the  Continental Divide.  We dine in the Victorian Delaware Hotel in Leadville, and enjoy another train ride through the mountains.  Later we arrive in the Denver area for the night and our Farewell Dinner.  (B,L,D)

AUG 25...It has been a wonderful trip to spectacular Colorado and its magnificent Rocky Mountains. This morning we catch our flight back home. (B)
