Treasures of Middle Georgia
Ocmulgee National Monument is a prehistoric American Indian site. American Indians first came here during the Paleo-Indian period hunting Ice Age mammals and many different Indian cultures occupied this land for thousands of years. They constructed mounds for their elite, which remain today. We will visit the museum as well as walk into one of the ancient ceremonial mounds. Lunch included in Macon as we travel along the Ante-Bellum Trail to Milledgeville. Settled in 1803, this town once served as the Capital of Georgia. We see the Old State House built in Gothic style in1807. Sherman stabled his horses in the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and the Old Governor’s Mansion was home to Georgia’s governors from 1839-69. Great day of touring.
